If you want to argue or discuss with
me about coding theories and methods please don't ever use the argument
that you have got soo many years of programming experience.
You might have got ten or more years of experience in a particular
programming language. But when it comes to arguing about programming
techniques using this statement makes you look like a totally newbie.
It just is obvious then that you haven't learned much.
I really like arguing and discussing about coding. And I'm always
open to change my mind if you manage to bring up reasonable arguments.
In fact you often have superb chances convincing me as I am a rather
unexperienced developer yet. But arguments like "believe me I'm
programming since 1754" neither doesn't help me in any way nor does it
really impress me. The next time I'm hearing this sentence it will mean
immediate end of discussion for me.
I am in a constant learning process. Rarely will you see me without
reading a book during lunch break. I'm following newsgroups discussions
and technical blogs. In my opinion this is an essential part in the
profession of software developers. So from any discussions I'm
participating I expect to gain something useful. So instead of "just
believe me, Junior", it is better to say that you just don't feel like
arguing now. This is much more honest and I would still have respect
for you.
